How To Install VMware Workstation 11 On Ubuntu Linux

VMware workstation is a virtualization software at the desktop level. It allows us to run multiple virtual machines (VMs) on a physical machine or hypervisor on which VMware workstation is installed.

It is developed and maintained by VMware Inc. As it is a commercial software so we have to buy its license or we can use its trail version for 30 days. Recently latest version of VMware workstation 11 has been released. One of the important change in this release is that we can install workstation 11 only on that machine which has 64-bit processor. Previous versions of VMware workstation can be installed on both 32-bit & 64-bit Machine

In this post we will discuss the installation steps of VMware Workstation 11 in Ubuntu 14.04 & 14.10

Installation Steps of VMware Workstation 11 in Ubuntu 14.04 & 14.10 Step:1 Update the System using apt-get command

[email protected]:~$ sudo apt-get update
[email protected]:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade

Step:2 Download Workstation 11 (Bundle Script) from the official Site

[email protected]:~$ wget https://download3.vmware.com/software/wkst/file/VMware-Workstation-Full-11.0.0-2305329.x86_64.bundle

Step:3 Set the execute permission on downloaded bundle script

[email protected]:~$ chmod a+x VMware-Workstation-Full-11.0.0-2305329.x86_64.bundle

Step:4 Now execute the Script & Start installation

[email protected]:~$ sudo ./VMware-Workstation-Full-11.0.0-2305329.x86_64.bundle

Select 「I accept the terms in the license agreement」 & then click on Next

If You want to check the product updates on startup , then select Yes or else No and Click on Next. In my case i have select 「No」 option.

Click On Next

Specify the user who will connect to the Workstation Server

Click On Next

Specify the Location where Virtual machines will be stored.

click on Next

Specify the https port for Workstation Server and then click on Next

Enter the license key or you can left blank ( for trail version )

Click On 「Install」 to start the installation

Installation is in Progress….

Installation Completed….

Now Access the Vmware Workstation 11

Dash Home—> Search—> vmware

Click on 「VMware Workstation」

Now Create Virtual Machines (VMs) and have fun ?
